Weather in Jowai

Jowai is a stunningly beautiful town in Meghalaya’s Jaintia Hills district. Jowai’s main attractions are spectacular panoramas of vast green landscapes and the perfect blend of heritage and local culture. Because of the town’s elevation of nearly 1400 meters, Jowai has a pleasant climate all year. The Myntdu River surrounds it on three sides, and Bangladesh borders it on the south. While rain is a common visitor not only during the monsoons but also during the summers and winters, Jowai remains a popular weekend destination, particularly when combined with a visit to nearby Shillong.

Jowai temperature in summer goes to 23 degrees Celsius and in winter come down to 6 degree celsius

Summer Season:

In contrast to the sweltering summers experienced by the rest of northern India, Jowai’s summers are moderately warm and the weather is generally quite pleasant. Jowai’s high altitude is largely to blame for the ideal weather it experiences during these months, which includes low humidity levels, average afternoon temperatures between 22 and 30 degrees Celsius, and frequent cool nighttime breezes. This is one of the best times to visit Jowai before the monsoons arrive and make travel in this part of the state difficult.

Monsoon Season:

Jowai experiences heavy rainfall during the monsoon season due to its proximity to Mawsynram, the world’s wettest region. The monsoon season lasts much longer than the summer season and should ideally be avoided by travelers. During these months, the roads can become dangerous, and landslides are common. While the rain brings new life to the landscapes and enhances the region’s beauty, the humidity levels remain quite high, making outdoor activities unpleasant for those who are not used to this type of weather.

Winter Season:

Winters in Jowai last longer than summers and can be moderate to severely cold. During these months, tourists flock to Jowai to enjoy the town’s chilly climate and misty landscapes. Temperatures range from 10 to 20 degrees Celsius but can drop to around 4 degrees Celsius during January, the coldest month of the year. If traveling during these months, travelers should bring appropriate woolen garments.
