Umiam Lake

If you want to experience a man-made reservoir which can provide you a feeling of a natural lake then you must visit this mesmerising lake, which is only 18 kilometres away from the capital city of Shillong. This lake formed when a dam was constructed in the year 1960 by the Assam state Electricity Board to generate hydroelectric power in the state. The entire boundary of the lake is encircled with lush green valleys and you can also witness some small-small island in the middle of this lake. To catch it at its utmost level you must visit this place during the hour of sunrise as it is extremely pleasing.

Shillong Peak

This is the highest point in Shillong from where you can have a scenic and bird-eye view of the entire city which is termed as Scotland of the East. It is located at a height of 6,449 above sea level. A telescope is available for its travellers to witness each and every corner of the city. During the winter season you can also observe the Himalayas with the help of these telescopes that are situated at a great altitude. Elephant Falls

This astonishing fall is named as Elephant Falls by the Britishers because they found an elephant-shaped rock on one side of the falls. But in the year 1897 a major earthquake hit the state which fragmented the stone and later on it got washed away by the stream water. This is the most visited site in Meghalaya among its prime tourist destinations. It is like a slice of paradise for nature-lovers as they can witness three enormous layers through which this cascade falls. If you want to spend some time with nature then this place is supposed to be a superb site for this act. The first layer of this waterfall is tucked within the dense forest but it is quite broad and you can easily observe it. The second layer is comparatively reedy and you can observe it clearly only during the winter season due to declining in water-level. The third layer is referred to as the most visible and impressive layer of elephant falls due to its character like milk over the black-brown rocks in the background.

Laitlum Canyons

It is one of the less travelled sites in Meghalaya, but now it has increased its pace because of its amazing quality. You can observe fog-like clouds in its region at every hour of the day but if you visit this unbelievable site during the time of sunrise and sunset you can witness a village called Rasong, that is nestled in the ridges of Laitlum valleys. Within this period of time, you can also observe a river that flows from a high to low loftiness and a trivial waterfall. This location which is full of amaze is only 12 kilometres away from the capital city of Meghalaya that is Shillong.

Wards Lake

In the middle of an extremely trafficked city, ward’s lake is an extremely pleasing site within the capital city of Meghalaya. It is encircled with lush green slopes and alongside the lake you can also witness a cobble-stone path that will allow you to observe the colourful floral beds while walking through it. This lake was established by the Chief Commissioner of Assam, Sir William ward within the British era in India. In the middle of this lake, you can witness a wooden bridge that helps its visitors to walk from one side to another. Lady Hydari Park

Lady Hydari Park is a public park situated at a distance of only 2.5 kilometres from the Shillong Bus Stand within the capital city of Meghalaya. It is referred to as a small zoo with children playing with items like seesaw, swing, merry-go-round and many more. It is named after Lady Hydari, who was the wife of the governor of Assam. This beautiful park is designed in a Japanese garden style with a mass area of more than one kilometre square. Inside this park you can observe approximately 73 species of birds, 140 species of reptiles and other mammals. You can also witness a museum within which you can see elephant skulls, stuffed leopards and other animals.

Shillong Golf Course

Located in the district of East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya, Shillong Golf Course is referred to as the eldest, largest and finest Golf Course across the globe. It is situated in a mesmerising gorge that is speckled with thick pine trees. This Golf course is quite tidy and well maintained due to which the United States Golf Association and Museum has given it the title of ‘Gleneagle of the East’. It was established in the year 1898. In the beginning this beautiful golf circuit had a 9-holes course but in the 1924 Caption Jackson and C.K. Rhodes converted this golf circuit into 18-holes course.

Don Bosco Museum

It is a seven storeyed building Museum which is situated at a distance of only 3 kilometres from the Shillong bus stand. It was opened in the year 2003 so that the travellers of Meghalaya can get to know about the customs and traditions of the north-eastern states of India. It displays the culture and ethnicities of the people of Seven Sisters State. This museum is in the shape of a hexagon and it has multiple galleries which contain artefacts, music instruments, traditional ornaments, customs and lots more.
