Places to visit during Shillong Caving Tour

Umiam Lake

Umiam lake, a reservoir which is referred to as the most tourist visiting spot near Shillong City. And the total distance between Shillong and Umiam is 18 kilometres. The lake was formed when a dam was constructed by the Assam State Electricity Board near the Umiam lake to generate hydro electricity power. Though the dam was built to generate hydroelectrical power, now it is receiving a lot of attention from tourists. The entire lake is surrounded by green valleys and mountains and in the middle of the lake travellers can also perceive some islands. The Umiam lake location is simply perfect for adventures enthusiasts as it is filled with aqua sports like boating, swimming, water scooter,water cycling and many more.

Shillong Peak

Shillong peak is the peak in Meghalaya which provides an absolute view of the capital city Shillong. From this peak travellers can spectate each and every corner of the city with the help of a telescope. It is situated at an elevation of 1,965 metres above the sea level and according to many historians the shillong city got its name from this valley only. The locals of this region used to say that ‘Leishyllong’ used to live here, who helps people a lot by providing them financial support. This area falls under the IAF Eastern Commands therefore, if you are visiting this location then you must carry your original ID’s proof. Foreigh national travellers are not allowed to enter this location.

Elephant Falls

Elephant falls, A three-tier waterfall which is only 12 kilometres away from Shillong is referred to as the most beautiful and most visited location in Meghalaya. Underneath this fall travellers can witness a natural pool which reflects green colour. There is a proper way to reach the bottom of this fall. While you head toward the bottom of the fall you can witness its first tier as it is nestled in a thick forest but clearly visible.

Laitlum Canyons

Laitlum Canyon is Positioned about 12 kilometers away from Shillong. Travelers can see a lot of misty fog and drifting clouds at Laitlum Canyons, an idyllic destination due to its incredible attributes. Sunrise is the best time to visit this location since you can see a tiny helmet hidden deep within Laitlum village’s boundaries alongside a waterfall and river. Wards Lake

Wards Lake is a beautiful lake with boating opportunities that is located in the middle of a busy city. Green hills surround the lake on all sides, and a gravel path can be seen close to it. This enables its visitors to stroll and see a vibrant flowerbed. Sir William Ward, the Chief Minister of Assam, built this lake during British rule. Lady Hydari Park

Only 2.5 kilometers separate the Shillong bus stop from Lady Hydari Park, which bears her name. Lady Hydari was the Assam governor’s wife. This park includes a zoo in addition to being a park. This zoo is home to 140 different kinds of reptiles and about 73 different bird species. In addition to these attractions, tourists can visit a museum where they can see many additional creatures as well as the skull of an elephant and stuffed leopards. With a total size of little over one square kilometer and a Japanese garden-inspired design, this park is extremely large. Children can view several playthings inside this park, including a merry-go-round, swing, and seesaw.

Shillong Golf Course

The oldest, largest, and cleanest golf course in the world is the Shillong Golf Course. situated in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya. Travelers may see a large, thick pine tree inside this golf course. The United States Golf Association and the museum have given it the nickname “Green eagle of the East” due to its neatness and trimness. The first nine holes of this golf course were built in 1898 when it was first formed. However, Captain Jackson and C.K. This golf course was converted into an 18-hole course Rhodes. Don Bosco Museum

Don Bosco Museum is more than just a museum; it is a place where you may learn a lot about the people of north-east India. It is a seven-story structure with a hexagonal shape that is only 3 kilometers from Shillong. How to Reach Shillong

By Road: In between Shillong and Guwahati numerous Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) and Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) buses were used to operate. Travellers according to their budget can choose any coach from the sleeper, air-conditioned and luxury buses. Visitors can also cover their journey to Shillong from Guwahati via NH 40 which is full of scenic places in between. The total distance between Shillong and Guwahati is 101 kilometres.

By Train: Guwahati railhead is the closest railway station to Shillong city, which is about 101 km from the city. The Guwahati Railway Station is situated in the state of Assam Because Shillong does not have its own railhead and from outside the station, travellers can book a cab to reach Shillong.

By Air: Umroi airport is the closest airport to Shillong which is about 28 kilometres from Meghalaya’s capital.
