Places to visit during Shillong Adventure Tour

Umiam Lake

Umiam Lake, a captivating man-made reservoir, is located 15 kilometres north of Shillong, the capital of the north-eastern Indian state of Meghalaya. After a dam was built to produce hydroelectric power, the lake was formed. The picturesque Umiam Lake is surrounded by luxuriant East Khasi hills, creating one of the nation’s outstanding panoramic views for nature enthusiasts. You shouldn’t miss the sunrise by the lake because it is so enjoyable to observe. A park right next to Umiam Lake is popular for picnics and is used by inhabitants as a refuge from their hectic schedules.

Shillong Peak

The highest point of Shillong is called Shillong Peak, and it rises 19649 feet or 1965 meters above sea level. It provides a beautiful vista over the Bangladesh plains, the Himalayas, the entire city, and its waterfalls. Tourists can use a telescope to gain a bird’s eye view. For the best views, it is highly advised to hike up to this semi-circular Shillong Peak, but it is frequently surrounded by dense fog.

Elephant Falls

The Elephant Falls, which are among the most well-known falls in the Northeast and are located close to Shillong, were given their name after an elephant-like stone that lies at their base. Three tiers of the falls are accessible to the general public from various viewing points, making it a tourist destination ideal. Because there is an elephant-shaped boulder on one side of the fall, the British gave it that name. But in 1897, there was an earthquake, and the stone crumbled and washed away. On the East Khasi Hills, the Laitlum Canyons are one of Shillong’s less-visited yet most alluring tourism and hiking destinations. The best panoramic views of the entire Meghalaya state, which is encompassed by massive hills and valleys, can be found at this odd observation site, which literally means “End of Hills.” It’s a calm, serene setting, ideal for retreats. Wards Lake

Ward’s Lake, a man-made lake encircled by a lush green landscape in the center of Shillong, is a popular tourist destination around which the entire city has been designed. Lady Hydari Park

The well-known Lady Hydari Park, which is named after the state’s first lady and the governor of Assam’s wife, Lady Hydari, is conveniently situated in Shillong’s Laban neighborhood. When you enter this park, the first thing you notice is how it is designed to look like a Japanese garden. Shillong Golf Course

One of the best and oldest natural golf courses in the world is located in Shillong. According to the USGA and Museum, it is referred to as the “Gleneagle of the East.” It has nine holes and is located at a height of around 5,200 feet in a valley that is undulating. Thick groves of pine and rhododendron trees surround the course. The 18-hole version of the 1898-built golf course was added in 1924. A group of British civil service officers introduced golf to Shillong in 1898. The golf course’s aesthetic appeal extends to non-golfers as well. The course is nearly always damp, which contributes to its beauty.

Don Bosco Museum

The exquisite tradition and culture of North East India can be found at the Don Bosco Museum, touted as Asia’s largest Museum of Indigenous Cultures. It is perfectly located in the Mawlai neighborhood adjacent to the Police Bazaar. It dominates Shillong’s skyline with its seven floors and has 16 carefully designed galleries that showcase items, artwork, and historical figures significant to Northeastern culture. These provide visitors not only a scenic treat but also a window into daily living in the North-Eastern region.

Air Force Museum

The Air Force Museum, which is situated in the Upper Shillong neighborhood, offers an excellent overview of the nation’s armed forces, particularly the Air Force, as well as information on military history.
