Places to visit during Mawsynram Tour

Mawjymbuin Cave

One of Meghalaya’s most famous caverns is Mawjymbuin, which is nearby Mawsynram and has religious importance. The staircase that leads to the massive entrance of the cave lowers two stories and is hidden away in a bush. A modest observation platform with stunning views of the entrance, which is 4-m high but amazingly 50-m wide, is located on the first floor. A further set of stairs will lead you to the cave’s entrance from this vantage point. Due to the cave’s thick vegetation cover on the roof, a steady trickle of water drips down the aperture.

Lum Symper Peak and Cave

North of the Mawjymbuin Cave, the route winds through a region of expansive meadows bordered by gently rising hills. A few kilometres further along this path, the ragged Lum Symper Peak, which is sharply rising in the background, may be seen. The grassy area at the base of the summit is a popular place for locals to have picnics. After an hour-long trek, the peak is attained and provides magnificent views of the surroundings. The track starts moving just a short distance from the road. The first portion of the trek is rather simple: to get to the grassy hilltop, you can either take the rocky, steep trail or the twisting stairway. From this point on, the trail gets challenging and contains rough portions that need to be carefully navigated.

Khreng Khreng Waterfall

These magnificent falls are located just off the main path and may be reached by taking a detour from the highway near Mawsynram. Khreng Khreng is one of the most accessible waterfalls in the East Khasi Hills region. There is parking for tourist cars a short distance from the falls. A short trek will take you to the Khreng Khreng Viewpoint, which is located down a road that is surrounded by impressive cliffs. The waterfall, which thunders down a nearly vertical granite face, is a magnificent sight. A concrete wall has around the falls to keep it from overflowing onto the road. The water from the natural pool drains into a sizable ravine on the other side of the street.

Mawlyngbna

Over the course of a weekend when you can gradually explore the region’s natural treasures and learn about the local way of life, is the finest time to experience Mawlyngbna’s rural paradise. If you only have a day, you can travel to the village from Mawsynram or Shillong. Mawlyngbna, which is removed from the main centres of the east Khasi hills district, has a unique natural attractiveness because of its abundance of vegetation, mountain views, natural springs, and kind, hospitable locals. This secluded region of Meghalaya, almost hidden from the traveler’s gaze in the southern slopes of the Khasi hills, offers breathtaking vistas of jade-green peaks dropping into the plains of Bangladesh.

Umkhakoi Lake

This magnificent man-made lake may be seen a short distance west of the settlement. The Umkhakoi River, which is surrounded by amazing rock formations on its northern shore, was dammed to create this lake. The reservoir is a popular picnic spot for both locals and tourists. It is surrounded by hills that are densely forested. The stony banks have a number of depressions, the most of which are usually filled with water. Bamboo bridges span the opposing sides of several of the larger ones. There is a small viewing deck nearby with sweeping views of the surroundings. Kayakers just starting out will love the lake’s tranquil waters.

It is well known that Mawsynram is among the wettest places on earth. Therefore, the best time to visit is between April and June, when the country is in its summer. This lovely tourist destination in the “abode of clouds” offers a welcome break from the heat of the summer because the temperature stays comfortably cool all day. By Road: It can be worth the time and effort to choose to go by road to reach Mawsynram because the north-eastern Indian road scenes are recognised for being breathtaking. The town is well connected to Shillong, Guwahati, Cherrapunji, and Cherrapunji. On the beautiful path, there are stunning, cloud-covered mountains and nice, open fields separating these cities. With easy access to buses, jeeps, and private cars, Shillong is 60 kilometres away and takes slightly more than 2 hours to get, and Guwahati is 150 kilometres away. Travelers from Cherrapunji must take a diversion at Mawngap in order to get to Shillong; the route is around 80 km long and takes just under 3 hours to accomplish.

By Train: There are no railroad lines in the state of Meghalaya, and the closest station is 150 miles away in Guwahati, Assam. If you don’t want to fly, you can take the railway to Guwahati and then a car or bus to Mawsynram. The journey, which takes slightly over 4 hours, is worthwhile in its entirety. Hills, waterfalls, and the lovely surroundings are simply a preview of what is to come.

By Air: Shillong Airport, also known as Umroi Airport, is the closest airport to Mawsynram. Mawsynram doesn’t have a local airport. Mawsynram can travel to significant Indian cities by direct and connecting flights from Shillong Airport, which is around 86 kilometres away. After a stunning three-hour trip from Shillong, you can take a bus or a private cab right from the airport to Mawsynram. Some travelers may even opt to fly into Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport in Guwahati, Assam, rather than Shillong, for more options with direct flights around the country. Mawsynram is around 170 kilometers from Guwahati Airport, and it takes about 5 hours to go there by automobile.
