Places to visit during Mawsynram Caving Tour

Mawjymbuin Cave

The well-known Mawjymbuin cave is located in Meghalaya’s Mawsynram hamlet and is surrounded by lush vegetation, sloping hills, and breathtaking waterfalls. This cave is a great adventurous delight for nature lovers, historians, and spiritualists and has important geological significance. The main draw of this cave is a large stalagmite near the entrance that is shaped like a Shiva Linga. It’s incredibly interesting how the Shiva Linga is constantly drenched in water that drips from the stalactite that looks like a cow’s udder just above it! You will be astounded and in awe by the breathtaking natural beauty that surrounds this cave. You feel a great sense of belonging as you worship Lord Shiva and look out the window.

Lum Symper Peak and Cave

The route travels through a set of expansive meadows bordered by gently ascending hills to the north of the Mawjymbuin Cave. A short distance down this path, the rocky Lum Symper Peak can be seen towering dramatically in the distance. Locals frequently picnic in the patch of grass close to the peak’s base. After an hour of hiking, you will reach the peak, which offers sweeping views of the surroundings. After just a few short steps off the road, the route starts to look interesting. The first portion of the trip is straightforward: to get to the grassy hilltop, either take the rocky, steep path or the winding staircase. Along Lum Symper Road, the enigmatic Lum Symper Cave is tucked away among the trees. The atmosphere of the cave is evocative of the Tomb Raider video game series. The route to the cave is an adventurous scramble through forests with streams winding through them; one of the streams has a small waterfall and is dotted with moss-covered stones and various fern species. The massive cavern’s entrance is reached through a stepping-stone pathway. You can witness naturally created pools of crystal-clear water during the rainy season since water is continually dropping from the nearby greenery. A deep cave filled with rocks and stones is called Lum Symper Cave.

Khreng Khreng Falls

Take a detour off the highway near Mawsynram to see these breathtaking falls, which are only a short distance from the main tourist trail. One of the East Khasi Hills’ most easily reached waterfalls is Khreng Khreng. A short distance from the falls is where you may find visitor parking. You can get to the Khreng Khreng Viewpoint, which is down a road surrounded by amazing rock formations, after a brief climb. The granite cliff, which is practically vertical, is thrashed by the cascade. The falls are surrounded by a concrete wall to prevent them from overflowing onto the road. On the opposite side of the road, a sizable ravine is where the water that flows from the natural pool collects.

Mawlyngbna

Mawlyngbna is a well-kept secret in Meghalaya, a stunning state. The distance from Mawsynram to the spot is around 25 kilometers, and the trip from Shillong takes about two hours. The settlement, which is situated above Bangladesh’s lowlands, only has a few hundred residents. A range of activities and surprises are offered by the area’s surroudings, which include breathtaking hills, turbulent streams, waterfalls, tunnels, and natural hot springs. More magnificent waterfalls can be found. Most archaeological discoveries have been made at Mawlyngbna. Here, well-preserved animal fossils from the past 200 million years have been discovered. Umkhakoi Lake

A bit west of the settlement is where you may find this wonderful artificial lake. The Umkhakoi River, which has stunning rock formations all around it on its northern side, was dammed to create this lake. Locals and visitors alike enjoy having picnics at the reserve. Slopes that are heavily forested surround it. The stony banks have a number of depressions, most of which are frequently filled with water. Bamboo bridges connect several of the larger ones’ opposing sides. There are extensive views of the surroundings from a small observation point nearby. The lake’s quiet waters are ideal for beginning kayakers. Renting rowboats and kayaks is possible at the observation point.

Split Rock

On the outskirts of the neighborhood, along a desolate stretch, is this unusual geological structure that is definitely worth a quick visit. The route leading to the rock is lined with clusters of jackfruit and pineapple trees as well as a tangle of prickle-covered vegetation. Take care as there are large stone and pebbles all along the walkway. It ends in a little area where a huge boulder has obviously been split in half. Locals attribute the separation to the magnitude 8 Assam earthquake in 1897. The boulder has a flat top with a clear fracture going through the middle and is surrounded by tropical vegetation.

Krem Puri

The longest sandstone cave in the entire globe is this fictitious mountain labyrinth. At first glance, the entrance seems innocent, but it quickly becomes clear that this is just the beginning of a fascinating and occasionally lethal maze. You’ll be forced to step outside of your comfort zone and have all of your senses awakened by the Krem Puri cave diving experience. Summer:Summer in Mawsynram begins in March and lasts until the end of June. Mawsynram is regarded as the ideal spot to evacuate from a high-heat intensity zone to a low-heat intensity region. During the summer months, Mawsynram has a temperature of approximately 15-20 degrees Celsius, which is ideal for hiding from India’s plains and scorching regions. How to Reach Mawsynram

By Road: The roads and highways journey to Meghalaya city are popularly beautiful as it provides many scenic vistas during the journey. Therefore, if you are planning to visit Mawsynram by road then you are not going to disappoint yourself because you can come across many waterfalls, lakes and viewpoints during your road trip. If you are travelling in a group then you can opt for a rental bike service from the Guwahati Region, and by riding you can visit the location of Mawsynram.

By Train: One can witness no railhead in Meghalaya, therefore if you are travelling by train then you have to arrive first at Guwahati railway station. Mawjymbuin Cave

Mawjymbuin Cave, located in Mawjymbuin Village in Mawsynram (the wettest location on Earth), Cherrapunji, is a major religious site. Lum Symper Peak and Cave

Locals go to the rock-bound Lum Symper Top, which spans a lush base with the peak. Many hours of walking are required to gain a panoramic view of the surroundings. Your first trial will only need a few steps from the road, and for the remainder of the distance, you can either walk the stairs leading to the green hilltop or take the steep path. It is reported that mudslinging occurred between Lum Symper Peak and Kyllang Rock; the dented slope left behind may still be seen there.

Khreng Khreng Falls

Take a detour off the highway at Mawsynram to reach these beautiful falls, which are barely off the usual path. Khreng Khreng is one of the most accessible waterfalls in the East Khasi Hills. There is parking for tourist cars a short distance from the falls. After a short climb, you may reach the Khreng Khreng Viewpoint, which is located down a road lined by beautiful cliffs. It is surrounded by breathtaking hills, rushing streams, waterfalls, caverns, and natural hot springs, all of which provide a wide range of activities and surprises.
