Places to visit during Mawsynram Adventure Tour

Mawjymbuin Cave

An important religious site is Mawjymbuin Cave, which is located in Mawjymbuin Village in Mawsynram (the wettest location on Earth) in Cherrapunji. The 209-meter high cave is of particular interest to geologists who do specialized study here since it is made of calcareous sandstones and has many stalagmites (developed as a consequence of calcium carbonate depositions, weathering, and dripping of mineral enriched fluids). Naturalists, photographers, pilgrims, and tourists all flock to the Mawjymbuin Cave.

Lum Symper Peak and Cave

The ideal picnic location for residents is the rock-bound Lum Symper Peak, which spans a green base with the peak. A panoramic view of the landscape requires many hours of walking. Your first trial will only need a few steps from the road, and for the remaining portion of the journey, you can either climb the stairs leading to the green hilltop or choose the precipitous way. Between Lum Symper Peak and Kyllang Rock, there is known to be mudslinging, and you can still see the dented slope caused by the mudslinging in that area.

Khreng Khreng Falls

These lovely falls are accessible by a detour off the motorway to Mawsynram and are placed just off the main path. One of the East Khasi Hills district’s most easily accessible waterfalls is Khreng Khreng. A few meters away from the falls, there is parking for tourist cars. The Khreng Khreng Viewpoint is just a short stroll away from here, down a road that is bordered by towering cliffs. The waterfall is a stunning sight as it thunders down an almost vertical granite wall. The falls have been fenced off to prevent overflowing onto the road by a concrete wall. On the opposite side of the road, the waters from the natural pool fall down the cliff and into a large ravine.

Mawlyngbna

A hidden treasure in the lovely state of Meghalaya is Mawlyngbna. The location is only 25 kilometers from Mawsynram and around two hours trip from Shillong. The community, which has only a few hundred residents, is perched above Bangladesh’s lowlands. Beautiful hills, flowing streams, waterfalls, caverns, and natural hot springs surround it, and they all provide a variety of activities and surprises. There are also other beautiful waterfalls. Archaeological discoveries are most prevalent in Mawlyngba. Here, 200 million-year-old animal fossils have been discovered and preserved. Adventure sports including zip line, kayaking, and trekking are also available here. There are opportunities for mountain biking for travelers that are more daring.

Umkhakoi Lake

A little distance west of the settlement is where you’ll find this lovely manmade lake. This lake was created as a result of the dam being built on the Umkhakoi River, which is bordered by remarkable rock formations on its northern side. The reservoir, which is bordered by heavily wooded hills, is a well-liked picnic location for both locals and visitors. There are several depressions in the stony banks, most of which are typically filled with water. Some of the larger ones’ opposing edges are connected by bamboo bridges. There is a little viewing platform with expansive views of the landscape nearby. The lake’s calm waters are perfect for beginning kayakers. Near the viewing platform, row boats and kayaks are available for rental.

Split Rock

This unusual geological feature, which is situated along a desolate stretch on the outskirts of the settlement, is worth a quick visit. The path leading to the rock winds through a tangle of prickly brush and groups of jackfruit and pineapple trees. The route must be cautiously navigated because it is covered in large pebbles and stones. It comes to an end at a little clearing where a massive boulder is visibly broken in half. Locals claim that the 1897 Assam earthquake of magnitude 8 is to blame for the separation. The rock, which is surrounded by a tangle of tropical flora, has a flat top with a clear fracture running through the center.

Krem Puri

The longest sandstone cave in the world is an imaginary mountain labyrinth. The entry seems innocent at first, but as you descend steeply to get here, a fascinating and occasionally dangerous maze eventually emerges. The experience of caving in Krem Puri will push you beyond your comfort zone and heighten your senses. Make sure you have the appropriate gear, like helmets and headlamps.
