Kamalabari Satra

The largest river islands in the world are located in Assam. The River Brahmaputra and its tributaries played a major role in its formation. The neo-Vaishnavite cultural centre of Assam has historically been this island. Bedulapadma Ata founded the Kamalabari, one of Majuli’s most well-known Satras. It has been and still is the epicentre of culture, literature, the arts, and classical studies. This satra has given the state a number of notable cultural leaders. Numerous well-known dancers from Assam’s classical dance tradition, including Muktiyar Bayan and the late Maniram Dutta, are featured in this Satra.

Dakhinpat Satra

On Majuli Island in the state of Assam, the Dakhinpat Satra is one of the most well-liked satras. A Sri Vanamalidev follower named Vamshigopal founded this Satra in the year 1584. To feel the peace of the location, thousands of devotees go from all over the world to this satra. Several lovely floral forms, religious symbols, and animal forms are engraved on the satra’s entrance gate. Garmur

One of the Majuli Island’s royal satras is the Garamur Satra. It was founded in 1656 AD by Jayaharideva and is regarded as a significant holy site. The atmosphere in this old satra is really melancholy. There used to be two Garmurs, but they were eventually combined into one. Many antiquated items and antiques may be found at this Vaishnavite site in Majuli, which might provide visitors a better understanding of the locals’ religious practices. The change to turn this monastery into a semi-monastic one was started by Sri Sri Pitambardev Goswami. In the satra, worshippers congregate in a shared prayer chamber to ask the Almighty for his blessings.

Auniati Satra

The Auniati Satra was formed in 1653 AD by Sultanla, a monarch of the Ahom people. The Lord Krishna, also known as Govinda, is the idol that is worshipped in this satra. Originally from Jagannath Puri, this deity was erected here. This well-known satra has twelve branches spread over the state, with the main branch in North Guwahati. In Assam, this satra is regarded as the cultural heartland of Satriaya and Vaishnavism. The satra performs daily religious duties as well as several other activities, such as singing and dancing at satriayas, teaching various religious texts, and writing biographies of Vaishnavite saints.

Tengapania

On the banks of the Brahmaputra River in Majuli, there is a breathtaking location called Tengapania. Machkhoa, Dhakuakhana, and the Disangmukh surround this lovely location on all sides. How to Reach Majuli

By Road: Majuli is a river island that is not connected to any significant towns or cities by roads. Therefore, tourists cannot be transported to the little island by buses or taxis. Jorhat is accessible by road. To get to Jorhat, travelers must take a 7-hour bus trip from Guwahati. To get to Jorhat, travelers can also use a private cab. To get to Majuli from here, though, they will need to rely on ferries.

By Train: Majuli doesn’t have any railway stations. Tourists must board trains from Guwahati to Jorhat, the closest rail station to Majuli, to reach Majuli by train. From Jorhat, travelers may take buses and cabs to Neemati Ghat, where they can board boats that will take them to Majuli.

By Air: Regular flights are available at Jorhat Airport, also known as Rowriah Airport, from Guwahati and other eastern and northeastern towns. Neemati Ghat is approximately 14 kilometers from Jorhat and can be reached from Jorhat by bus or cab. Tourists can use ferry services to go to Majuli from Neemati Ghat. Every day, there are two boat trips from Neemati Ghat to Majuli. 10:00 am and 3:00 pm are the times.
