Places to visit during Jowai Caving Tour

Tyrshi Falls

One of the many stunning locations in Jaintia Hills is Tyrshi Falls. which tourists still hardly ever explore, yet its beauty is unfathomable. Paddy fields surround this stunning waterfall on all sides, and viewing it from a distance is quite amazing. 55 kilometers from Shillong and 5 kilometers from Jowai separate this waterfall from those locations. As the Tyrshi Falls divide the fields, you can see an arch bridge at this stunning cascade that links one section of rice fields to another. Visitors must descend a zigzagging trail to reach the base of the falls, and while doing so, they can marvel at this magnificent waterfall.

Krang-Suri Falls

Krang Suri is a beautiful and spectacular natural feature that can be seen in Meghalaya’s Jaintia Hills region. It is quite amazing in its splendor. It has only been included in so many Bollywood movies for this reason. At the base of this waterfall, there is a wonderful natural pool that you can enter if you so choose, but you must first rent a life jacket. You must descend a narrow slope to reach the base of the waterfall, which provides visitors with an amazing view of the Krang Suri region. You would have to rely on small eateries run by local Khasi people because it is remote and lacks large restaurants.

Nartiang Village

The Nartiang Monoliths are India’s largest collection of monoliths, and what makes them special is that each chunk of granite there stands in for a different person. There are rocks that are flat and those that are standing. The flat rocks denote female ancestors, whereas the upright rocks denote male ancestors. The location was given national significance under the 1958 Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act. Legendary warrior U Mar Phalyngki, a trusted subordinate of the Jaintia King, was given the title of highest rock to mark his victory in the conflict. These monoliths, which honor some of Meghalaya’s most illustrious soldiers, are dispersed throughout the Khasi and Jaintia hills.

Umlawan Caves

It is situated 60 kilometers from Jowai to Umlawan. The Lumshnong hamlet, which is a part of Meghalaya’s West Jaintia Hills region, is home to this limestone cave. The most popular destination in Jowai, also known as Lumshnong Cave in Meghalaya, is said to be this cave. Two other caverns with the names Umskor and Kotsaki connect to this burial. The total length and depth of this cave are 21 kilometers and around 100 metres, respectively. The longest and deepest cave in the subcontinent is this one. Unique stalactite and stalagmite structures naturally adorn this cave. The Lumshnong community’s hub serves as the entrance to this cave.

Jarain Pitcher Plant Lake

Because of the pitcher plant-only garden that surrounds it, the lake is known as the Jarain Pitcher Plant Lake. In an effort to conserve this carnivorous plant, the Meghalayan government created this lagoon. This 50,000 square meter lake is situated on Jowai-amlarem Road and is visible from the highway due to its location there. The lake’s appeal is enhanced by a huge artificial pitcher plant in its middle. You can make out tiny knolls near this lake on a clear day. A greenhouse, an arched bridge, and gravel walkways are all features of this picturesque lake.

Syntu Ksair

In the Jaintia language, the word “golden bloom” is called “Syntu Ksiar.” U Kiang Nangbah, a celebrated independence fighter from Meghalaya, has only spoken out against the British Army here. On the banks of the Myntdu River, this area is today a well-liked picnic spot for locals. The best feature of this location is that you may observe kids and seniors swimming and fishing in the river as soon as you arrive. A wire suspension bridge over the river and a water collection system is also visible in this area.

Thadlaskein Lake

It is a man-made lake in the West Jaintia Hills neighborhood that is notable historically. The distance to Shillong, the state capital of Meghalaya, is 58 kilometers. A long time ago, the king of Jaintiapur and a ruler by the name of Sajar Nangli quarreled. He then decided that in order to avoid being blamed for a forthcoming dispute, he and his friends would leave the king’s palace. After leaving the palace and making a long journey in the twilight, they stopped for a rest. The ground where they were sitting and resting eventually became a wonderful lake that is still well-liked on Meghalaya’s list of huge lakes after they started excavating it with the edges of the bows and arrows they were carrying over time.

Lalong Park

From Jowai, this park is around 8 kilometers away. The people who live in the Jowai region revere this park. It is renowned for its location since it looks out over the Pynthorwah Valley. The District Administration of Jowai has taken steps to enhance the quality of this park through a DRDA tourism project by building infrastructure such as water dams, canals, restrooms, and changing rooms. To make the park into a key tourist destination, a Water Eco-Park is also being constructed inside its bounds. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the verdant paddy fields along the Myntdu River’s banks at this position. How to Reach Jowai

By Road: Road connectivity of Jowai to major cities of the northeast is quite good although this region receives a very heavy amount of rainfall during the monsoon months. National Highway 44 connects Jowai with Guwahati, Mizoram and Tripura. The only thing which is a hard nut to crack is finding the buses that ply the route which runs between Jowai and Guwahati.

By Train: Jowai town does not have a railhead as it belongs to Meghalaya, which has no railway lines. Therefore, if you are travelling by train then unfortunately you will be able to cover your journey only till Guwahati. Thereafter you have to cover your remaining journey in a rental cab. But it will not be so hectic as in between your journey you can perceive many scenic places and viewpoints.

By Air: Jowai is a beautiful town in Meghalaya which has no straight air connectivity but a traveller can find an airport nearby it. And the nearest complex of runways to this location is Umraoi/Shillong Airport, which is about 60 kilometres. In relation to this airport, there is a problem as it has limited connectivity. So if you are not getting a straight flight service to this airport, then you must go for the second option which is Guwahati International Airport which is about 161 kilometres.
