Places to visit during Jowai Camping Tours

Tyrshi Falls

Tyrshi Falls is one of the many beautiful spots in Jaintia Hills. Which is yet rarely explored by tourists, but its beauty is beyond description. This beautiful waterfall is bordered on all sides by paddy fields, and seeing it from a distance is very breathtaking. This waterfall is located 55 kilometers from Shillong and 5 kilometers from Jowai. You can see an arch bridge at this magnificent waterfall that connects one stretch of rice fields to another as the Tyrshi falls splits the fields. To reach the base of the falls, visitors must descend a zigzagging trail, and while doing so, they can enjoy a breathtaking view of this falls.

Krang-Suri Falls

Krang Suri, located in the Jaintia Hills area of Meghalaya, is a lovely and breathtaking natural site. Its beauty is quite breathtaking. This is the sole reason it has appeared in so many Bollywood films. You can see a magnificent natural pool at the base of this waterfall, and you can plunge into it if you like, but you must hire a life jacket before doing so. To get to the bottom of this waterfall, you must travel down a tiny trail that offers tourists an incredible perspective of the Krang Suri area. Because it is far from cities and there are no large eateries, you will have to rely on tiny restaurants managed by local Khasi people.

Nartiang Village

Nartiang Monoliths is India’s greatest collection of monoliths; the finest aspect about this place is that each piece of granite represents someone. There are rocks in two positions: standing and flat. The upright rocks represent male ancestors, while the flat ones represent female ancestors. The Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act of 1958 designated the site as of national significance. To commemorate his victory in the war, a legendary fighter U Mar Phalyngki, a valued subordinate of the Jaintia King, was designated the highest rock. These monoliths are scattred throughout the Khasi and Jaintia hills, commemorating some of Meghalaya’s most famous soldiers.

Umlawan Caves

It is located 60 kilometers from Umlawan from Jowai. This limestone cave is located in Lumshnong hamlet, which is part of the West Jaintia Hills area of Meghalaya. This cave, also known as Lumshnong Cave in Meghalaya, is said to be the most visited spot in Jowai. This burial is joined by two more caverns named Umskor and Kotsaki. This cave has a total length of 21 kilometers and a total depth of around 100 meters. This cave is known as the subcontinent’s longest and deepest cave. This cave is naturally ornamented with unique stalactite and stalagmite formations. The entrance to this cave is located in the center of the settlement of Lumshnong. During the wettest months of the year, one must swim to access this cave since the entrance is prone to flooding from rain.

Jarain Pitcher Plant Lake

It is known as Jarain Pitcher Plant Lake because it is surrounded by a garden filled with solely pitcher plants. The Meghalaya government developed this lagoon as part of an effort to preserve this carnivorous plant. This lake is located on Jowai-amlarem Road and can be seen from the highway since it covers an area of 50,000 square meters. A large man-made pitcher plant in the center of the lake adds to the attractiveness of this magnificent lake. On a clear day, you can see small-small knolls next to this lake. This lovely lake also has a greenhouse, an arched bridge, and gravel walks.

Syntu Ksair

Syntu Ksiar is a Jaintia language term that means “golden blossom.” This is the sole location where Meghalaya’s renowned independence warrior U Kiang Nangbah has spoken out against the British Army. This location is on the banks of the Myntdu River, and it is currently a popular picnic destination for residents. The nicest aspect about this spot is that as soon as you enter there, you can see children and old people swimming and fishing in the river. Within this region, you can also see a wire suspension bridge erected across the river and a water collecting system.

Thadlaskein Lake

It is a historically significant man-made lake in the West Jaintia Hills District. It is located 58 kilometers from Shillong, the state capital of Meghalaya. Once upon a time, a monarch named Sajar Nangli clashed with the king of Jaintiapur. He then resolved to depart the king’s palace with his comrades in order to escape being accused of an impending conflict. They halted for a rest after leaving the palace and traveling a long distance in the evening. After some time, they began excavating the ground where they were sitting and resting with the edges of the bows and arrows they were carrying, and it eventually transformed into a magnificent lake that is still popular on Meghalaya’s list of large lakes.

Lalong Park

This park is around 8 kilometers from Jowai. Locals in the Jowai area consider this park to be sacred. It is famed for its position, which overlooks the Pynthorwah Valley. Through a DRDA Tourism Project, the District Administration of Jowai has made some measures to improve the quality of this park by constructing infrastructure such as water dams, canals, bathroom facilities, and changing rooms. A Water Eco-Park is also being built inside the park’s boundaries in order to transform it into a significant tourist attraction. This location offers visitors stunning views of lush paddy fields on the banks of the Myntdu River. Visitors to this park can see a traveler’s nest, which provides a comfortable stay in the midst of nature.

Summer:During the summer season, the temperature of Jowai ranges between 30-20 degree Celsius. When the whole country is sweltering, Meghalaya experiences a pleasing climate. How to Reach Jowai

By Road: Despite the fact that Jowai has good road access, there aren’t many buses that traverse this route. National Highway 44, which runs through Jowai, connects Assam, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya, and some regions of Tripura. The most practical way to go to Jowai by road is to use the shared passenger transportation services of the Tata Sumo and Tata Indica. Travel costs are reasonable, and guests may even rent cars for the entire day to use as they choose while exploring.

By Train: The nearest railway station is Guwahati. It is 104 kilometers from Shillong and well-connected to other major Indian cities. Meghalaya Transport Corporation schedules bus services in Guwahati to synchronize with train arrivals (MTC).

By Air: Jowai does not have a direct air connection; nevertheless, passengers may fly into adjacent Shillong and Guwahati in Assam from other parts of the country due to their airports. Shillong Airport, around 60 kilometers from Jowai, is the nearest, however, it has a weak connection with the majority of planes arriving from Kolkata. Despite being 104 kilometers from Guwahati, the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport serves more Indian cities. Because there is excellent road connectivity between Shillong, Guwahati, and Jowai, travelers may fly to either airport and then take a private vehicle or cab from the airport to reach Jowai.
