Mawkdok Dympep Valley

From Shillong main town at a distance of 30 kilometres you can find this gorgeous Mawkdok Dympep valley. It is also considered as the best viewpoint in between Shillong and Cherrapunji. Apart from being the second wettest place on the earth it also serves many stunning waterfalls in its lap and Nohkalikai is one of them. Seven sisters falls

Seven sisters falls or Nohgithiang falls is situated at a distance of only 4 kilometres from Cherrapunji within the village of Mawsmai. It is a picturesque waterfall situated in the East Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya. It is pronounced as Seven Sisters because it has seven sectors. You can witness seven channels of falling water from its top. This amazing waterfall is at fourth position in the list of tallest waterfalls in India and the total height of this waterfall is 1,033 feet which is approximately 315 metres. This stunning waterfall is the major tourist attraction of Meghalaya and it attracts tourists not only from India but also from foreign countries. Mawsmai Caves

Mawsmai cave is situated at a distance of 4 kilometres from the second wettest place of earth that is Cherrapunji, it is a mesmerising limestone cave and referred to as the most famous landmark in Cherrapunji region. This natural cave is visited by travellers in a great amount as it is formed out of limestone. For a clear view this majestic cave is lit enough so that its travellers can witness its natural formation nicely. Visitors are allowed to explore this cave up to 150 metres, although this cave is very long. Rest of this section remains closed. This cave is home to numerous flora and fauna along with bats and insects. The best time to visit this outstanding cave is when the monsoon season gets covered because during the wettest months of the year this cave is full of water.

Garden of Caves

Arwah Caves

You can witness this mesmerising Arwah Cave at a distance of 3.5 Kilometres from the bus stand of Cherrapunji. It is a vast cave situated in Khlieh Shnong zone of Cherrapunji within the state of Meghalaya. It is nestled in the midst of a forest called Law Shynna, if you are an archaeology student or an adventure seeker then you must visit this place as you can witness some history and prehistory elements. It is popular due to its limestone formations and fossils which are supposed to be millions of years old. To reach this beautiful destination you can find two paths, one is in the form of rocky trails while the other one is very pleasant for walking. It is recommended that you must carry a pocket torch before entering this cave because inside this cave there is no sufficient light. This beautiful cave is not fit for children and elderly people. When you are inside this cave you can observe a stream that flows inside the cave.

Wei-Sawdong Falls

If you desire to witness a three-layered waterfall then you must visit Wei Sawdong falls situated near Cherrapunji. Many travellers used to say that you can observe its beauty at its utmost level when you reach the beneath of this waterfall. The winter season is supposed to be the best time period when you can visit this three-layered waterfall. This beautiful waterfall is on the way to Dainthlen falls. The only thing you have to keep in mind is that instead of turning into Dainthlen while going west, continue straight on Dainthlen Road and turn left onto a narrow road. To reach the bottom of this waterfall you have to trek down an adventurous route and this required journey is divided into two parts. The first one is completely easy as you can find makeshift stairs but the second one is quite challenging as it contains more steep steps made with bamboo and even these steps are unbalanced which makes its trek more thrilling. When you will reach its bottom things will settle down but the flow of water will remain the same.

Cherrapunji Eco-Park

Eco park is only 3 kilometres away from Cherrapunji bus stand, it is located quite near to Seven Sisters falls. Eco park is referred to as the must visit place in Cherrapunji region. It was established in the year 2004 by the government of Meghalaya so that travellers visiting Cherrapunji with their young ones can enjoy green canyons of Cherrapunji along with waterfalls that lie around it. This park is home to numerous hybrid and indigenous orchids. This park contains elements like monoliths, viewpoints, foot bridges, water conservations and many more. There is fencing all round the park which also acts as a guide of ways. The park has a pleasing environment that can provide peace to the tired body and mind of an individual. The best part of this park is, it is situated at a great altitude which offers an outstanding view of Bangladesh border plains.

Double Decker Root Bridge

Hidden deep within the thick tropical forest of Cherrapunji, in Jingkieng Nongriat village, Double Decker Root Bridge is one of the superb attractions of Meghalaya. It attracts tourists from different-different parts of India as well as from foreign countries to witness its charm and beauty. The ancient khasi tribes made these roots bridges by weaving and tangling the roots of two rubber trees that were growing alongside the river with the help of a frame. These root bridges are substitutes for wooden bridges. But the main difference in both the bridges is wooden bridges used to get destroyed within a decay or more nonetheless these roots bridges take centuries to deplete its quality and strength as the roots belong to a living tree.

Dainthlen Falls

Dainthlen waterfall is one of the most pleasing sites of the Cherrapunji region within the state of Meghalaya. When you reach this site, you can witness a gushing waterfall cutting the hard rocks at the highland before it cascades down into the thick forests of Sohra. Thundering sound of Dainthlen waterfalls, beautiful landscape, plateaus and gentle breezes that constantly blow in its region is an apt way to spend an hour with nature. This mesmerising waterfall falls from an altitude of 80 metres provides an extraordinary view for its travellers. Mawphlang Sacred Forest

Summer:In Cherrapunji, summertime rainfall is average. The monsoon season begins in March and lasts through May. The wettest month of the summer is May. How to Reach Cherrapunji

By Road: You may take a public or private bus to the Guwahati bus terminal, which is situated in Paltan Bazaar close to the Guwahati Railway Station if you’re planning to get to Cherrapunji by road. You may take a state-run bus, a private cab, or rent sumo to go to Cherrapunji from the Guwahati bus stop. Another method for getting to Cherrapunji by car is to take a bus to Shillong’s intercity bus station, where you can then get a taxi to the destination. The government-run intercity buses leave from Shillong’s Police Bazaar. From the Polo Grounds bus terminal, you may also board a private bus.
