Places to visit during Cherrapunji Camping

Mawkdok Dympep Valley

Mawkdok Dympep Valley is situated in between Cherrapunji and Shillong the capital city of Meghalaya. Travellers have to cover a distance of 30 kilometres from Shillong to reach this location. Travellers can also visit the bottomless of this valley by trek down through a stairway. The valleys of this particular place looks like an alphabet “V”This location offers an adrenaline pumping activity which is called zip lining. Travellers can click lots of pictures and selfies here by wearing the traditional dresses of Meghalaya. Nohkalikai Falls

Nohkalikai falls, is the tallest falls of India, as it cascading waterfall from a height of 1,115 which is about 340 metres above sea level. This stunning fall is the fourth tallest falls in the world. Travellers have to cover a journey of 53 kilometres to reach Nohkalikai falls. To catch this fall at its topmost level you have to visit this location in the post monsoon season. The marvellous prettiness of this fall attracts not only from India but also from foreign nationals. Seven sisters falls

Seven Sisters Falls, travellers have to cover a journey of 57 kilometres from Shillong to reach this beautiful location. It is one of the most alluring falls of Cherrapunji and the best time to visit this location is post monsoon, because during this period of time travellers can witness all the seven segments clearly. Mawsmai Caves

Mawsmai cave, is the longest cave in India with a total length of 250 metres, it is located in Cherrapunji region. Travellers have to cover a distance of 56 kilometres from the capital city of Meghalaya to reach this site. Although its total length is 250 metres, travellers are allowed to observe the cave only till 150 metres and the rest of its portion remains completely closed. The best part of this cave is that travellers do not have to opt for a guide as this cave has a [roper lighting system. Due to fossils and vestiges this cave looks outstanding from inside, and the arriving path to this beautiful location is completely mesmerising because travellers have to walk through a thick forest which is completely filled with chirping and tweeting sounds.

Garden of Caves

Garden of caves, a garden with an overall area of 2.5 hectare and it is completely encircled with dense forest. Travellers have to cover a distance of 48 kilometres to reach this location from Shillong City. This location is completely mesmerising within the state of Meghalaya because there is a pond inside this garden and whenever sun rays hit the pond the entire garden starts glowing up. Travellers can also find a waterfall inside this garden, and to reach the bottomless of this garden travellers have to trek down through a stairway, while moving down visitors can observe some spots which are clearly visible. In Meghalaya this is the only place where travellers can find all the attractive qualities of the state like caves, waterfalls, flora and a small pond, where visitors can dive and hangout.

Arwah Caves

Within the Cherrapunji region travellers can find lots of caves and even Arwah cave is one of them. It is situated at a distance of 52 kilometres from Shillong, Arwah Cave is popular due to its limestone, structures, stalagmite and stalactites. The moment travellers start the excursion of this cave they are going to be confused because of its majestic equality, the stalagmite and stalactites of this cave is so beautiful that it looks like man made instead of natural. Inside this cave there are many thin-thin passages and a stream that flows inside this cave. This cave is nestled in the middle of dense forest which is pronounced as Law Shnna. Wei-Sawdong Falls

Wei-Sawdong Falls is situated at a distance of 52 kilometres from Shillong, Meghalaya’s capital city. Many tourists compare this fall with Pamukkale hot Springs of Turkey. It is encircled with green trees and plants for all sides. Travellers have to trek down through a vertical stairway to get a proper view of these concealed waterfalls. When travellers witness this fall for the first time, they startled for a moment due to its unpolluted cascading blue colour water. Travellers can hear only one sound in this location and that is water pouring from three different levels. This beautiful location is not visible from the main road therefore, you have to go through a vertical trek of about 20 minutes to reach the waterfall. The total distance from the main road till this fall is approximately 200 metres.

Cherrapunji Eco-Park

Eco-Park, it is a park which is constructed and maintained by the government of Meghalaya, it is situated 55 kilometres away from Shillong within Cherrapunji region. From this location travellers can witness waterfalls, green canyons which are situated close to this park. Inside this park travellers can observe a stream which carries glassy water. From one end of the park travellers can perceive a breath-taking view of canyons of Sohra region and from the other side of this park travellers can get an alluring view of Bangladesh border plains. There are varieties of orchid species that can be observed within this park. Inside the park there is a greenhouse where travellers can find numerous species of orchids. This park is located at the top of a highland which provides a nice view of Sylhet Village of Bangladesh.

Double Decker Root Bridge

Double Decker root bridge, is a bridge which can amaze its visitors by its marvellous character, it is situated 62 kilometres away from Shillong. To reach this living root bridge one has to trek through a trail which is extremely enjoyable. It takes around 3 hours to reach the bottomless where you can witness the Double Decker root bridge. This beautiful location of Double Decker is surrounded by evergreen forest and underneath this bridge there is a pond where travellers can dive and hangout to relax their restless body. Locals claim that this Double Decker root bridge is more than 100 years old, which is an art of nature cum man-made. Mawphlang Sacred Forest

Summer:Summer in Cherrapunji starts in March and lasts till May, during which Cherrapunji receives modest rainfall. During this time the temperature ranges between 20-15 degree Celsius. Monsoon:In this whole world, Cherrapunji is the second wettest place after Mawsynram, which means it receives the second-highest amount of rainfall in the globe. How to Reach Cherrapunji

By Road: If you want to get to Cherrapunji by bus, take a public or private bus to the Guwahati bus terminal, which is located in Paltan Bazaar near the Guwahati Railway Station. To go to Cherrapunji from the Guwahati bus station, take a state-run bus, a private taxi, or rent a sumo. Another option for driving to Cherrapunji is to take a bus to Shillong’s intercity bus terminal and then take a cab to the location. The intercity buses run by the government depart from Shillong’s Police Bazar. You may also take a private bus from the Polo Grounds bus station.

By Train: Guwahati Railway Station, which has great links to the rest of the country, is the nearest railway station to Cherrapunji. To go to Cherrapunji, simply take a bus or a cab from here. Regular trains travel regularly to and from Guwahati Railway Station.
