Places to visit during Cherrapunji Bike Tour

Mawkdok Dympep Valley

In between Shillong and Cherrapunji way travelers will be able to spectate this eye soothing location. Nohkalikai Falls

Nohkalikai Falls is located at a distance of 53 kilometers from Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya, and 5 kilometers from Cherrapunji, the second wettest place on earth. This waterfall is termed the tallest fall in India and the fourth tallest fall in the world. It cascades from an elevation of about 1100 feet. To separate these falls completely there is a standpoint and to arrive at this point travelers have to trek for a few minutes. Underneath this fall there is a small body of still water which appears in green color by observing it from the viewpoint. Post-monsoon is mentioned as the best time to witness this astonishing fall.

Seven sisters falls

Seven Sisters Falls, which is also known as Mawsmai Falls, is popular because of its seven channels of cascading water. It is considered the fourth tallest waterfall in India as its falls from a height of 1,033 feet which is about 315 meters. It is nestled at a distance of 57 kilometers from Shillong. This location is one of the most visited locations in Meghalaya and during its peak time which is post-monsoon time this falls provides a magnificent vista. This waterfall is even considered as the rain-fed fall which literally means if you want to catch this fall at its topmost level then you have to visit this fall during the month of October. Visitors can witness this fall from the road itself, near this fall there is an enormous parking lot available where you can park your vehicle and enjoy the view of seven sisters falls.

Mawsmai Caves

Meghalaya is a state which serves lots of caves in her lap, even one of the longest cave of India belongs to this state only. It is situated about 56 kilometers from Shillong within the region of Cherrapunji. The entire expanse of this race is approximately 250 but travelers are not allowed to visit the end of the cave, they can jaunt it only till the distance of 150 meters, and the remaining portion of the cave is fully closed. There is a proper lighting system introduced inside the cave hence travelers do not have to opt for a guide. This cave looks really majestic because of stalactites and stalagmites, as it looks artificial instead of a natural formation.

Garden of Caves

Garden of the cave, is also pronounced as the ‘Ka Bri Synrang’ by the locals. It is about 48 kilometers from Meghalaya’s capital. It is referred to as the most astonishing location in the state as you can witness all the scenic vistas of Meghalaya out here in this region like a waterfall, cave, pond, printed rocks, and many more. The entire location of this cave is encircled by a thick forest and the best time to spectate in this location is during a clear day, because when the sun rays hit this location the entire cave gets lit up by the golden pearls of the sun. one side of this cave travelers can witness a ferocious waterfall. Travelers can also catch a proper view of this waterfall from a bamboo bridge which is situated at the topmost near the entrance gate. At the bottom of this location, travelers can find a natural pool where they can dive and chill out for a while.

Arwah Caves

Arwah cave is one of the most beautiful caves in Meghalaya as its entrance looks like the caves of desert areas. It is situated within the cherrapunji region at a distance of 52 kilometers from Shillong the capital city of Meghalaya. At the start of the jaunt, there is a massive sunken chamber that leads travelers to a numerous number of tunnels. The amazing cave is known because of its fossils which a traveler can observe in the lit-up interiors. The best thing to witness inside this cave is the end portion of this activity as you can spectate fish bones and large shells fossilized inside the limestone walls. Wei-Sawdong Falls

This fall is even termed the surreal fall of India and the beauty of this fall is beyond imagination. The locals of its region made this adventurous trek with the help of bamboo and wood logs. Cherrapunji Eco-Park

Eco park is situated within Cherrapinji region and from the bus stand, it is only 3 kilometers away. Near this park one of the iconic waterfalls of Meghalaya is located which is named Seven Sister Falls. This beautiful park was built in the year 2004 by the government of Meghalaya so that travelers can spectate the green canyons of cherrapunji along with the waterfall nestled close to this eco-park. Within this park government of Meghalaya has also introduced a greenhouse where travelers can witness numerous species of orchids. Double-decker Root Bridge, is a bridge that is constructed with the help of the roots of two rubber trees. It is situated at a distance of 62 kilometers, this root bridge amazed its travelers with its marvelous character. The Khasi people of ancient times built this living root bridge with the roots of two rubber trees that were growing next to the river. Firstly they twisted and winded the roots of the trees and then supported them with a frame. It takes around fifteen years for these roots to become a bridge that can bear the weight of people crossing it. To reach this Double Decker Root Bridge travelers have to trek down around 3500 steps. This bridge is a nature cum manmade art and it is also referred to as the ancient engineering of Khasi tribes.

Mawphlang Sacred Forest

How to Reach Cherrapunji

By Road: Take a public or private bus to the Guwahati bus terminal, which is located in Paltan Bazaar near the Guwahati Railway Station. Take a state-run bus, a private cab, or sumo from the Guwahati bus terminal to Cherrapunji. Take a bus to Shillong’s intercity bus station and then a taxi to Cherrapunji. The government-run intercity buses depart from Shillong’s Police Bazar. A private bus from the Polo Grounds bus terminal is also an option.

By Train: Cherrapunji’s nearest railway station is Guwahati Railway Station, which offers excellent connections to the rest of the country. Simply take a bus or a taxi from here to Cherrapunji. Trains run frequently to and from Guwahati Railway Station.

By Air: Cherrapunji is a popular tourist destination in Northeast India. There is, however, no operating airport. This is why people regularly inquire about flying to Cherrapunji.
