Places to visit during Assam Trekking Tour

Kaziranga National Park

In Assam’s Golaghat and Nagaon district, Kaziranga National Park is praised for its more extensive one-horned rhinoceros conservation initiatives. The well-known national park is home to two-thirds of the greater one-horned rhinoceros in the world and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 430 sq km national park, in addition to housing one-horned rhinos, is also home to elephants, swamp deer, and wild water buffaloes as well as having a high concentration of tigers. In addition to being a prime location for animal sightings in India, the national park is also identified as an Important Bird Area (IBA), making it a birdwatcher’s delight.

Manas National Park

Manas National Park in Assam is considered to be a safe haven for a number of rare and endangered species. It is also a tiger and elephant reserve as well as a biosphere reserve. The River Manas, a significant tributary of the Brahmaputra River and a river that runs through the reserve, gives Manas National Park its name. The 950 sq km national park, which is home to species including the Assam roofed turtle, hispid hare, golden langur, and pygmy hog, shares a boundary with Bhutan’s Royal Manas National Park. Assam’s Chirang, Darrang, Kokrajhar, Udalguri, and Baska districts make up the wildlife reserve, which is home to the Bansbari (Central), Panbari (Western), and Bhuiapara (Eastern) ranges.

Majuli Island

Hoollongapar Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary

A protected region in the state of Assam is called the Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary. Previously, this refuge was known as the Gibbon wildlifeSanctuary. This reserve was designated a sanctuary by the Assam government on July 30, 1997. It is a unique tourist destination in the Jorhat district, and it is only approximately 19 miles away. The conservation of the animal kingdom’s primate species is greatly aided by this nature sanctuary. In our nation, it is the only sanctuary where you may see hoolock gibbons and Bengal slow lorises. Tocklai Tea Research Center

In Jorhat, Assam, the Tocklai Tea Centre is a research facility and laboratory that is close to the Tocklai River. It is also known as the Tocklai Experimental Station for Tea Research or the Tocklai Tea Research Centre. It was founded in 1911, making it one of the biggest and oldest stations in the entire world. It was first built by the federal government, the tea industry, and the Indian states of Bengal and Assam. Together with the Scientific Department of the Indian Tea Association (ITA) and the Tea Research Association, it is now the hub of research ( TRA). The major goal of this centre is to advance tea development by identifying various strategies for raising the beverage’s nutritional value.

Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary

Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the Morigaon district of Assam amid the floodplains of the River Brahmaputra, is renowned for its high one-horned rhinoceros density. The sanctuary covers 38.8 square kilometres, of which the one-horned rhinos live in 16 square kilometres. Aside from rhinos, Pobitora is home to a wide range of other creatures, including over 275 different bird species, different reptile species, and leopard, wild boar, barking deer, and wild buffalo. Two Critically Endangered, four Endangered, eight Vulnerable, and three Near Threatened bird species are also supported by the reserve. The state’s indigenous plains bird, the Marsh Babbler (Pellorneum palustre), is very common in Pobitora.

Orang National Park

Orang, also known as Rajiv Gandhi National Park, is located between the Assamese districts of Darrang and Sonitpur. This wildlife reserve, which covers 78.81 square kilometres, was designated a national park in 1999. According to reports, Orang has a terrain that is similar to that of the renowned Kaziranga National Park thanks to the strategically placed marshes, streams, and grasslands. On the northern bank of the River Brahmaputra, the park is regarded as the most important reserve for the preservation of one-horned rhinos. It also supports a wide range of plants and animals, including the Asiatic elephant, pygmy hog, hog deer, and wild boar. Additionally, there are 50 different species of fish and 220 native bird species.

Umananda Island

The Peacock Island in the River Brahmaputra houses the famed Umananda Temple, which is home to Lord Shiva as its presiding deity. The island, which has people living on it, is the smallest riverine island in the entire globe. Gadadhar Singha, a well-known Shaivaite monarch of the Ahoms, constructed the Shiva temple on the island. The temple is located atop the Bhasmachala mountain. The local folklore claims that Lord Shiva, formerly known as Bhayananda, formerly lived here. According to the fabled Hindu literature Kalika Puran, Kamdeva, the God of love and desire, entered Shiva’s meditation session at the start of creation and interrupted it.

Dipor Bil

A freshwater lake called Deepor Beel is found in Guwahati’s south western region. In Assamese, the word beel means lake, and Dipor Bil is one of the largest lakes in Lower Assam’s Brahmaputra basin. The Kalmani and Basistha Rivers are its primary water sources, and it is encircled by steep mountains on both its northern and southern sides. Water lilies, water hyacinth, aquatic grasses, and many more varieties of floating vegetation are among the many aquatic plant species that may be found here. Phytoplankton from about 18 genera can be found in this Beel. This basin is home to a large number of deciduous trees, with teak being the most prevalent type.

Weather in Assam

Summer:Assam’s summers are not oppressively hot or humid like they are in most other parts of India. It lasts for a shorter amount of time and is even reviving. The average temperature ranges from 32°C to 38°C. The showers are a lifesaver whenever it becomes too hot or humid.
