Places to visit during Assam One Day Tours

Kaziranga National Park

Kaziranga National Park is commended for its more comprehensive one-horned rhinoceros conservation efforts in Assam’s Golaghat and Nagaon region. The well-known national park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to two-thirds of the larger one-horned rhinoceros in the world. Along with one-horned rhinos, the 430 sq km national park is also home to elephants, swamp deer, wild water buffaloes, and tigers in significant numbers. The national park is a birdwatcher’s paradise and a top spot for seeing animals in India. It has also been designated as an Important Bird Area (IBA).

Manas National Park

Many rare and endangered species are said to find refuge in Assam’s Manas National Park. In addition to being a biosphere reserve, it is also a tiger and elephant reserve. Manas National Park gets its name from the River Manas, a sizable tributary of the Brahmaputra River that flows through the reserve. The 950 square kilometre national park, which borders Bhutan’s Royal Manas National Park, is home to species such the Assam roofed turtle, hispid hare, golden langur, and pygmy hog. The Bansbari (Central), Panbari (Western), and Bhuiapara (Eastern) ranges are located inside the wildlife reserve, which comprises the Assam districts of Chirang, Darrang, Kokrajhar, Udalguri, and Baska.

Majuli Island

Majuli, the biggest river island in the world, is located in the Indian state of Assam and is part of the Brahmaputra River. This island was created by the confluence of the rivers Subansiri in the north and Brahmaputra in the south. It has been recognised as Assam’s cultural hub since the fifteenth century. The main settlement of the Majuli Island, Naghmar, continues to hold a multitude of festivities. This area is a green travel option since it is free of pollution and surrounded by vegetation on all sides. The festivals that are held here, which are extremely colourful and brilliant, are the main reason that people from different parts of the country flock to this region.

Hoollongapar Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary

The Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary is an area that is under protection in the state of Assam. This sanctuary was once known as the Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary. The Assam government declared this area a sanctuary on July 30, 1997. It is only about 19 miles distant and a distinctive tourist attraction in the Jorhat neighbourhood. This nature preserve significantly contributes to the preservation of primate species. It is the only refuge in our country where you may witness Bengal slow lorises and hoolock gibbons. People travel from far away to the sanctuary to see the unusual creatures that are being safeguarded there.

Tocklai Tea Research Center

The Tocklai Tea Centre in Jorhat, Assam, is a research centre and laboratory that is near to the Tocklai River. The Tocklai Tea Research Centre or the Tocklai Experimental Station for Tea Research are further names for it. One of the largest and most established stations in the whole globe, it was created in 1911. The federal government, the tea industry, and the Indian states of Bengal and Assam originally constructed it. It is currently the centre of research, together with the Tea Research Association and the Scientific Department of the Indian Tea Association (ITA) ( TRA). The main objective of this centre is to enhance tea development by exploring various methods for improving the nutritional content of the beverage.

Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary

The Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam’s Morigaon district, which is surrounded by the River Brahmaputra’s floodplains, is well known for having a high one-horned rhinoceros population. The one-horned rhinos dwell in a 16 square kilometre area of the sanctuary’s 38.8 square kilometre total area. Pobitora is home to a diverse range of other animals in addition to rhinos, including over 275 different bird species, several reptile species, leopard, wild boar, barking deer, and wild buffalo. The reserve also supports two Critically Endangered, four Endangered, eight Vulnerable, and three Near Threatened bird species. The Marsh Babbler (Pellorneum palustre), a native plains bird of the region, is widespread in Pobitora.

Orang National Park

The Assamese districts of Darrang and Sonitpur are separated by Orang, also known as Rajiv Gandhi National Park. This 78.81 square kilometre nature reserve was turned into a national park in 1999. According to accounts, the marshes, streams, and grasslands that are carefully located throughout Orang have a terrain that is comparable to that of the famed Kaziranga National Park. The park, which is located on the northern bank of the River Brahmaputra, is said to be the most significant reserve for the protection of one-horned rhinos. A large variety of other vegetation and animals, such as the Asiatic elephant, pygmy hog, hog deer, and wild boar, may also be found there. There are also 220 native bird species and 50 distinct fish kinds.

Umananda Island

The renowned Umananda Temple, which is home to Lord Shiva as its presiding deity, is located on the Peacock Island in the River Brahmaputra. The island is the tiniest riverine island in the entire world and is inhabited. The Shiva temple on the island was built by Gadadhar Singha, a prominent Shaivaite ruler of the Ahoms. On the Bhasmachala mountain is where the temple is situated. According to local tradition, here is where Lord Shiva, formerly known as Bhayananda, formerly resided. The God of love and desire, Kamdeva, allegedly invaded Shiva’s meditation session at the beginning of creation and interrupted it, according to the mythical Hindu text Kalika Puran.

Weather in Assam

Summer:Summers in Assam are not as oppressively hot or muggy as they are in the majority of other regions of India. It lasts less time and even has rejuvenating properties. The typical temperature is between 32°C and 38°C. When it gets too hot or humid, the showers come in handy. Majuli, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Haflong, Guwahati, and Jorhat are the best places to visit in the summer. The Rongali or Bohag Bihu, one of the three Bihu celebrations celebrated in Assam, may also be attended. Bihu is their primary holiday.

Monsoon:Assam has frequent downpours during the monsoon. As a result, the Brahmaputra regularly overflows, drowning the regions close to its banks. Another frequent monsoon phenomenon that poses a risk to tourists is landslides. Assam travel during the monsoon season is not suggested.

How to Reach Assam
