Places to visit during Assam Caving Tour

Kaziranga National Park

Kaziranga National Park, a well-known national park in India, is situated in Assam’s Golaghat and Nagaon districts. The Brahmaputra runs alongside the park. Kaziranga was established as a tiger reserve in 2006 because it has the greatest tiger density of any protected area in the world. The park also provides protection for sizable breeding populations of elephants, swamp deer, and wild water buffalo. It has also been designated as a vital habitat for the preservation of various bird species by Birdlife International.

Manas National Park

Manas National Park in Assam is recognised as a secure haven for several rare and endangered species. In addition, it includes a tiger and elephant reserve as well as a biosphere reserve. The River Manas, a significant tributary of the Brahmaputra River that flows through the reserve, is whence Manas National Park derives its name. Hoollongapar Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary

Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary

One of the closest natural areas to Guwahati is the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, a hidden gem of Assam. The Sanctuary is less well-known than some of the state’s other more well-known wildlife areas. I came across Pobitora while travelling to Guwahati. We weren’t aware of it till a Guwahati-based local business owner mentioned it to us in passing. Guwahati is not far from Pobitora, which is situated in the Morigaon district along the Brahmaputra River. It started out as a grazing reserve for the Nagaon region. In response to the high population of one-horned rhinos in the area, Pobitora was established as a wildlife sanctuary in 1987. There are 27 settlements located on the 38.8 square kilometre sanctuary’s perimeter.

Orang National Park

The designation of Orang National Park as a tiger reserve—the fourth in the state and the 49th nationwide—has significantly aided tiger conservation in northeast India, especially Assam. The decision, which has long been sought to preserve the big cat in Orang and the forest corridor that links it to the more well-known Kaziranga reserve, was praised by wildlife enthusiasts. Because of its comparable habitat and abundance of one-horned rhinos, Orang, which is situated on the north bank of the Brahmaputra, is commonly referred to as the “little Kaziranga.” Its estimated 24 tiger population is likewise in good health. Experts claim that the big cat regularly travels between riverine islands on the Brahmaputra before making its way to Kaziranga.

Dipor Bil

18 kilometres from Guwahati Railway Station, Deepor Beel is a glittering lake in the Assam kingdom southwest of Guwahati metropolis. It is also known as Dipor Bil and is regarded as one of the most important lakes in the Brahmaputra valley in Western Assam as well as one of the most picturesque locations in Guwahati. A permanent freshwater lake, sometimes called Dipor Bil or Deepor Beel, was created by the old Brahmaputra water channel. The Assam government classified 4.14 square kilometres of Dipor Bil’s total 40 square kilometres as a bird sanctuary in 1989. According to legend, Beel served as a crucial dockyard for both the TaiAhom and the Mughals. The Assamese word beel, which means “big lake,” is well known for being one of the largest beels in Lower Assam’s Brahmaputra valley, which is located under the Burma Monsoon Forest biogeography zone.

Umananda Island

The enormous river Brahmaputra flows through the heart of the tiniest river island in the whole globe, known as Umananda Island. Peacock Island’s name, which the British colonists gave it because of its shape, is a result of the surroundings and the lovely vegetation. The Golden Langurs and other local animal and plant species share this environment with people.
