Places to visit during Assam One Day Tours

Kaziranga National Park

A well-known national park in India, Kaziranga National Park is located between the Golaghat and Nagaon districts of Assam. The park is situated along the Brahmaputra River. UNESCO has designated it as a world heritage site. It has a 430 sq km area under it. Two-thirds of the world’s one-horned rhinoceroses live in the park. According to the most recent census, which was conducted in March 2015 and published by the Assam Forest Department, there are 2401 rhinos in Kaziranga National Park, including 1,651 adults, 294 sub-adults, 251 juveniles, and 205 cubs. The agency carried out an effort to protect wildlife in collaboration with recognized wildlife NGOs. Since Kaziranga had the highest tiger density of any protected region in the world, it was designated as a tiger reserve in 2006. Large breeding populations of elephants, swamp deer, and wild water buffalo are also protected within the park. Birdlife International has also classified it as a key habitat for the conservation of numerous bird species.

Manas National Park

Assam’s Manas National Park is regarded a safe sanctuary for a variety of rare and endangered species. It is also a biosphere reserve and a tiger and elephant reserve. Manas National Park gets its name from the River Manas, an important tributary of the Brahmaputra River that passes through the reserve. The 950-square-kilometer national park has a boundary with Bhutan’s Royal Manas National Park and is home to species such as the Assam roofed turtle, hispid hare, golden langur, and pygmy hog. The wildlife reserve is located in Assam’s Chirang, Darrang, Kokrajhar, Udalguri, and Baska districts and is home to the Bansbari (Central), Panbari (Western), and Bhuiapara (Eastern) ranges.

Majuli Island

Majuli, the world’s largest river island, is located on the Brahmaputra River in the Indian state of Assam. This island is formed by the rivers Subansiri in the north and Brahmaputra in the south. It has been recognised as Assam’s cultural hub since the fifteenth century. Naghmar, Majuli Island’s main settlement, still holds a multitude of events and festivals. This site is a green travel option since it is pollution-free and surrounded by vegetation on all sides. The major reason that people from different parts of the country visit to this region is for the lively and colourful festivals that are held here. Raas Purnima is one such big holiday that people here lavishly celebrate. The dance performance, which is based on the life of Lord Krishna, is entertaining to witness. The Paal Naam and Bathow Puja are two well-known festivals in Majuli. The region has 22 Vaishnava Satras, all of which date back to the fourteenth century. These Satras are the most popular tourist spots in the area, with many tourists each year. Among the important Satras in this area are Dakhinpat Satra, Kamalabari Satra, and Garamurh Satra. Bird watching is another pastime that you could enjoy while on vacation.

Hoollongapar Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary

Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary in Jorhat is India’s only sanctuary named after a gibbon since it has the highest number of gibbons. It is home to India’s sole gibbons, the hoolock gibbons, and the Bengal slow loris, the region’s only nocturnal primate. The refuge is also known as the Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary, after the prevalent tree species Hollong. The Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary was once part of the Hollongapar reserve forest near Jorhat. In 1881, the Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary was designated as a reserve forest. Previously, the woodland region extended up to the slopes of the Patkai mountain range, and it was bordered by tea plantations and several tiny settlements. The protected area began to diminish in 1896, and the forest progressively fragmented, isolating the reserve forest from the foothills.

Tocklai Tea Research Center

Tea is the first thing that comes to mind when we think about Assam. People claim that if you don’t taste the tea in Assam, there’s no point in visiting. Tourists from all over the world flock here to sample the tea. You can have figured out what the connection between tea and Assam is and how beautiful it is. Tocklai Research Centre is the place to go if you want to learn more about tea and its flavor. You can view numerous scientific studies on tea manufacturing. During the British administration, the Tocklai Research Centre was established, which is today the largest tea research center in the world and remains at the forefront of research. Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary

Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, a hidden treasure of Assam, is one of the nearest natural regions to Guwahati. In comparison to other of the state’s more well-known wildlife locations, the Sanctuary is relatively unknown. During my journey to Guwahati, I stumbled upon Pobitora. It wasn’t on our schedule till a local store owner from Guwahati informed us about it during a casual conversation. Pobitora, located on the banks of the Brahmaputra River in Morigaon district, is a short drive from Guwahati. Originally, it served as a grazing reserve for the Nagaon area. Pobitora was created as a wildlife sanctuary in 1987 in response to the prevalence of one-horned rhinos in the region. The sanctuary covers 38.8 square kilometers and is surrounded by 27 communities.

Orang National Park

Orang National Park has been designated as a tiger reserve, the fourth in the state and the 49th in the country, providing a significant boost to tiger conservation in northeast India, particularly Assam. Wildlife enthusiasts applauded the decision, which has long been sought to conserve the big cat in Orang and the forest corridor that connects it to the more well-known Kaziranga reserve. Orang, located on the north bank of the Brahmaputra, is frequently referred to as the “little Kaziranga” because of its similar environment and the large number of one-horned rhinos. Its tiger population, estimated at 24, is also in good health. According to experts, the big cat frequently swims from one riverine island on the Brahmaputra to another before arriving in Kaziranga on the southern bank.

Dipor Bil

Deepor Beel is a sparkling water lake located to the southwest of Guwahati town in Assam kingdom, 18 kilometers from Guwahati Railway Station. Also known as Dipor Bil, it is widely regarded as one of the most significant lakes in Western Assam’s Brahmaputra valley and one of the most beautiful places to visit in Guwahati. Deepor Beel, also known as Dipor Bil, is a permanent freshwater lake formed by the former Brahmaputra water channel. Dipor Bil has a total area of 40 square kilometers, of which 4.14 square kilometers were designated as a bird sanctuary by the Assam government in 1989. Because of its unique wetland biodiversity, it was designated as a Ramsar site in November 2002. Because of the variety of chook species present in the beel, Birdlife International has designated Dipor Bil as an Important Bird Area. It is said that Beel became an important dockyard for both the TaiAhom and the Mughals. Beel means “great lake” in Assamese, and it’s well recognized as one of the largest Beels in the Brahmaputra valley of Lower Assam, beneath the Burma Monsoon Forest biogeography zone.

Umananda Island

Umananda Island is the world’s smallest river island, located in the center of the massive river Brahmaputra. The surroundings, coupled with the gorgeous foliage, give it the moniker Peacock Island, which was given by the British colonists because of its form. It is a co-habitat for both humans and the wildlife and flora species found here, such as the Golden Langurs. 0.The main attraction of the island is the Umananda temple, which is devoted to Lord Shiva’s shrines and is frequented by worshippers all year. If you wish to visit the island, the ideal time to do it is from October to can, which is the winter and spring seasons. The weather is ideal during this time, however, you should avoid the rainy season when there is a risk of landslides. To go to the island, use any road from the airport or station in Guwahati, as it is close to the city center.
