Places to visit during Assam Bike Tour

Kaziranga National Park

Kaziranga National Park in Assam’s Golaghat and Nagaon districts is renowned for its more comprehensive one-horned rhinoceros conservation efforts. The well-known national park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to two-thirds of the world’s larger one-horned rhinoceros. In addition to one-horned rhinos, the 430-square-kilometer national park is home to elephants, swamp deer, and wild water buffaloes, as well as a high concentration of tigers. Aside from being a popular spot for animal sightings in India, the national park is also designated as an Important Bird Area (IBA), making it a birdwatcher’s paradise.

Manas National Park

Assam’s Manas National Park is regarded as a safe sanctuary for a variety of rare and endangered species. It is also a biosphere reserve and a tiger and elephant reserve. Manas National Park gets its name from the River Manas, an important tributary of the Brahmaputra River that passes through the reserve. The 950-square-kilometer national park has a boundary with Bhutan’s Royal Manas National Park and is home to species such as the Assam roofed turtle, hispid hare, golden langur, and pygmy hog. The wildlife reserve is located in Assam’s Chirang, Darrang, Kokrajhar, Udalguri, and Baska districts and is home to the Bansbari (Central), Panbari (Western), and Bhuiapara (Eastern) ranges.

Majuli Island

Majuli, the world’s largest river island, is located on the Brahmaputra River in the Indian state of Assam. This island is formed by the rivers Subansiri in the north and Brahmaputra in the south. It has been recognized as Assam’s cultural center since the fifteenth century. Naghmar, Majuli Island’s main settlement, still holds a multitude of events and festivals. This site is a green travel option since it is pollution-free and surrounded by vegetation on all sides. The major reason that people from different parts of the country visit this region is for the lively and colorful festivals that are held here.

Hoollongapar Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary

The Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary is a protected area in the state of Assam. This refuge was once known as the Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary. On July 30, 1997, the Assam government recognized this area as a sanctuary. It is a one-of-a-kind tourist spot in the Jorhat area, and it is just around 19 kilometers away. This nature reserve contributes significantly to the protection of primate species in the animal kingdom. It is the only refuge in our country where you may witness hoolock gibbons and Bengal slow lorises. Visitors travel from all around to see these uncommon creatures that are being preserved at the sanctuary.

Tocklai Tea Research Center

The Tocklai Tea Centre, located near the Tocklai River in Jorhat, Assam, is a research center and laboratory. It is also known as the Tocklai Tea Research Station or the Tocklai Tea Research Centre. It was launched in 1911, making it one of the world’s largest and oldest radio stations. The federal government, the tea industry, and the Indian states of Bengal and Assam were the first to construct it. It is presently the research hub, together with the Scientific Department of the Indian Tea Association (ITA) and the Tea Research Association ( TRA). The main purpose of this center is to enhance tea development by exploring various techniques for increasing the nutritional content of the beverage.

Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary

Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, located in Assam’s Morigaon district in the floodplains of the Brahmaputra River, is famous for its high one-horned rhinoceros density. The sanctuary is 38.8 square kilometers in size, with the one-horned rhinos living in 16 square kilometers. Aside from rhinos, Pobitora is home to a diverse range of other animals, including over 275 bird species, reptile species, leopards, wild boar, barking deer, and wild buffalo. The reserve also protects two Critically Endangered, four Endangered, eight Vulnerable, and three Near Threatened bird species. The Marsh Babbler (Pellorneum palustre), the state’s endemic plains bird, is prevalent in Pobitora.

Orang National Park

The Rajiv Gandhi National Park, popularly known as Orang, is located between the Assamese districts of Darrang and Sonitpur. This 78.81-square-kilometer wildlife reserve was named a national park in 1999. Orang, according to accounts, features topography akin to the famed Kaziranga National Park due to deliberately arranged wetlands, streams, and grasslands. The park, located on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra River, is recognized as the most significant reserve for the conservation of one-horned rhinos. It also provides a habitat for a diverse array of flora and animals, including the Asiatic elephant, pygmy hog, hog deer, and wild boar. There are also 50 distinct fish species and 220 local bird species.

Dipor Bil

Deepor Beel, a freshwater lake, is located in Guwahati’s southwestern area. Dipor Bil is one of the major lakes in Lower Assam’s Brahmaputra basin, and the term beel means lake in Assamese. Its principal water sources are the Kalmani and Basistha rivers, and it is surrounded by rugged mountains on both its northern and southern sides. Among the various aquatic plant species that may be found here are water lilies, water hyacinths, aquatic grasses, and many more types of floating vegetation. This Beel contains phytoplankton from roughly 18 different genera. This basin is home to a huge number of deciduous trees, the most common of which is teak.

Umananda Island

The legendary Umananda Temple on Peacock Island in the River Brahmaputra is home to Lord Shiva as its presiding deity. The island, which has people living on it, is the world’s smallest riverine island. The Shiva temple on the island was built by Gadadhar Singha, a well-known Shaivaite ruler of the Ahoms. The temple is perched on the crest of the Bhasmachala mountain. According to local legend, Lord Shiva, formerly known as Bhayananda, formerly dwelt here. Kamdeva, the God of love and desire, invaded Shiva’s meditation session at the beginning of creation and interrupted it, according to the famous Hindu literature Kalika Puran.

Summer:Summers in Assam are not as oppressively hot or humid as they are in most other parts of India. It has a shorter lifespan and even regenerative qualities.
